Baskin arrived at a local shelter with several littermates/ friends in tow. His prior life included an owner who went to jail and a local angel who tried to keep Baskin and the other pups fed by throwing food over the fence. Out of all of the pups, Baskin was the shyest and probably got picked on my his littermates, based on his behavior, and likely had to settle for scraps after his more assertive family members ate their fill.
At about 1 year old and 31 lbs., Baskin is a sweet, sensitive boy who is learning that the world isn’t such a scary place after all. He may be a little shy when you first meet him, but with a bit of patience and kindness, his loving personality really starts to shine.
Baskin absolutely adores his people—especially women—and forms strong bonds with those he trusts. He’s happiest spending his day close to his foster mom, often staying right by her side as her quiet little shadow. He sleeps peacefully on a dog bed near his humans and enjoys being part of the household.
He’s fully potty trained and does great with structure—he’s comfortable in his crate and will happily settle in when left alone for a few hours. He enjoys going on walks and gets very excited to get outside, though he’s still building confidence and will benefit from a calm, encouraging environment. He is a very smart boy and learns quickly but we need to build more confidence before we can start training on commands.
Baskin would thrive in a patient home that can continue to help him grow his confidence at his own pace. With a little love and reassurance, he’s a deeply loyal and affectionate companion just waiting to fully blossom.
