Named after the location of one of our fave shelter partners, Graham is approximately 8 month old and 17 lbs. He is a loving little dog who loves to play with his foster friends and loves your lap even more!


He's slightly shy but is quickly gaining the confidence to explore and wander on his own. He's moderately active and would be great with a family and another dog friend.

Leo was rescued from a North Texas shelter after being taken in as a stray.

We are still learning about him but so far he is a sweet boy that seems to get along with dogs and cats.

Rockie was surrender to a rural OK shelter due to him having too much energy for his previous family.

Since moving into a foster home, he has shown himself to be the sweetest, affectionate and most happy go lucky pup. He loves other dogs and people and is doing great at crate training, picking up some basic obedience and housebreaking. He can get a little excitable at times, but is learning to settle down well - just a smart little dude that will make an awesome companion with some patience and guidance.

Ziti (renamed Susie Q) was originally rescued with her 4 siblings and mom from a rural shelter and adopted from the rescue. Unfortunately, her adopter recently had to surrender her back to the rescue due to a life-changing family event that required her to move out of state with very little notice.

Ziti is a very sweet, affectionate, pup that loves to cuddle and be close to her people. She loves playing with other dogs, going on walks, chewing on bully sticks and chew toys, and attention! She can still be shy around unfamiliar men, and can occasional give a bark or a small growl when she sees them approaching; however, once the new person gets close to her, she is super submissive and will roll onto her back and show her belly and once she gets a few min to warm up, becomes very affectionate and attention seeking. She is building confidence quickly and this behavior is becoming much more rare.

Ziti would thrive in a patient and loving home that will encourage positive introductions with new people and continue to help her becoming the social butterfly that she really wants to be!

Ace was abandoned as a stray and rescued by a good Samaritan that reached out to us for help.

Ace may start off a little shy, but once he feels comfortable, his affectionate and playful personality shines through. He loves greeting familiar faces, enjoys being outdoors, and would thrive with an active family who loves adventures, playtime, and fresh air.

Ace is a true Border Collie at heart — smart, energetic, and always ready to chase, herd, or puzzle his way into fun. He does especially well with another playful, energetic dog who can help him burn off all that enthusiasm. He’s also cat-friendly and lives peacefully with a cat now. Inside, Ace is chill; he’s housebroken, can be left alone without issue, and loves settling under the dining table or solving treat puzzles.

He’s still getting comfortable with leashes and harnesses, but he’s learning and making progress every day. Sparky was rescued from a shelter in LA after his former owner went into hospice. Sparky is very smart and affectionate and loyal/eager to please once he bonds with his human - he is border collie through and through and will be a wonderful companion for an experience border collie lover. Since he did not have a very good start in life, he is currently undergoing professional leash training and socialization to make sure he’s well set up for his family.

Ruben is an energetic and playful young pup. He is very smart and loving with his people, but can be a bit shy meeting new people. He loves to with play with the two small dogs in the house, learned to use a dog door very quickly and is crate trained. "Antonio” Bark-deras

Antonio is the gentle giant of the litter—a thoughtful, affectionate puppy whose strongest bond is with his person. While he takes a little more time to process new environments than his siblings, once he feels comfortable his playful personality, tremendous toy drive, and sweet disposition quickly shine through.

Personality
Dallas may be the smallest puppy in the litter, but she certainly has the biggest personality. She is the problem child - expressive, vocal, and never hesitates to let everyone know when she wants attention, needs to go outside, or disagrees with her current accommodations.

She is easily the most affectionate puppy of the group and absolutely loves physical affection. She actively seeks cuddles, happily showers people with puppy kisses, and has never met a human she didn't immediately like.

Dallas is confident in familiar surroundings and takes only a short time to adjust to new environments. She is one of the more athletic puppies, loves running and wrestling with her siblings, and was the first puppy to become interested in chewing bones. Her toy drive continues to develop.

Hi my name is Bear!

I love to play! I get very excited and grab your arm to bring you along with me. I’m very loyal boy and extremely smart, I just don’t quite know how to manage it yet. My best friend was a ten year old boy who I had such a loving bond with. I have so much energy and love to run! I come from a blended family with so many different pets, I love them all and get along so very well. I’m still a puppy at heart so please be patient with me and help guide me. Sometimes I’m too smart for my own good but with the right teacher I’ll be the star student.

Bear is being fostered in Springtown, TX

Nugget is a blue merle puppy (about 10 months old) who was hit by a car at the beginning of April 2026 and taken to the shelter, His injuries included a fractured pelvis and his tail was completely degloved. The shelter amputated the majority of his tail and his pelvis has healed, and we were able to pull him into a foster home at the beginning of May.

His initial amputation did not heal well, and after a couple of weeks in foster care, we discovered that he had three different antibiotic resistant bacteria in his tail area. Even after multiple cleanings and medications, it appeared as if the bacteria was going to win. The general vet who saw Nugget initially recommended euthanasia as she felt the long-term prognosis was not good and we didn't want Nugget to suffer.

Luckily, we have an alumni adopter who is also a vet at a specialty hospital, and when we reached out to her for a second opinion, enlisted the surgeon in her office to take a look at Nugget. The vet thought there was a better chance of a successful second amputation if we were able to provide some fairly intensive ongoing medical care to help heal the tail area and reduce (or eliminate) the bacteria. Our alum rallied her office and one of the vet techs offered to foster Nugget through an initial trial period, take him back and forth to the office for near-daily check ups, and manage his medical care.

After about a week and a half of this care, the surgeon completed a second tail amputation to remove the remaining tail and other muscle/ tissue that was not healing. As of today, Nugget is on the road to recovery and the surgeon gives him a better than 90% chance for a full recovery!

He has lived the last three months in a cone but even so, Nugget has won the hearts of all those that he meets. He is the sweetest, bubbliest, happiest boy wherever he goes!

Interested folks can apply now for Nugget though it may be a few more months before he is available to adopt.

Forrest was rescued from the euthanasia list at a Houston shelter, after she was brought in as a stray having just recently given birth.

Forrest can still be very shy when meeting new people but is the sweetest, WAGGIEST, and most gentle companion when she has formed a bond. She LOVES other dogs and squeaks with excitement when she gets to see her friends first thing in the morning and tries to give them lots of kisses. Due to how much more confident she is around other dogs, we are prioritizing her for adoption or foster to adopt to a home with another friendly dog at this time.

Forrest adores walks (her little tail wags almost the whole time!), is great with cats, and is potty trained and crate trained, although she behaves so well outside of the crate that her foster rarely has needed to crate. If you are a patient and gentle home that will give her time and love to come out of her shell, Forrest is the perfect companion!

Katydid and her littermates were born at the end of April to Momma Bug.

Katy is one of the sweetest pups you'll ever meet. She’s curious, playful, observant, and self assured. She doesn’t startle easy and if she does, recovers quickly. She’s not fearful of vacuums, storms, or fireworks. She loves to sleep on her back cuddled in a fuzzy blanket after a long day. She will sleep all through the night in bed. She isn’t a fan of the crate but is improving little by little. She is a more laid back puppy but has a nice balance of also wanting to play. She would like to have a doggy companion. She is doing great with potty training and leash training. Katy is a people person through and through. She wants to be where you are, doing what you are doing. Super sweet, super cuddly, and a good amount of energy!

Katy was confirmed through a vet eye specialist exam to be blind in her right eye. The condition does not require any special care and based on what the vet has told us, is not uncommon in large litters. Katy is not at all bothered by her "bad" eye and it in no way impacts her activity, development or life in anyway!

Jewel and her littermates were born at the end of April to Momma Bug. They are currently being fostered south west of Austin, in Cedar Creek and will be available to adopt the second week of June.

Jewel is a quiet, loving girly. She can take a little time to observe before jumping into new things, but still wants to give new experiences a try at her own pace! She is very go-with-the-flow, and absolutely loves meeting new people and dogs!

Mayfly, born to Momma Bug at the end of April and WHAT A LOOKER!!!!


She has a gorgeous smooth coat with beautiful silver and grey highlights in her fur, especially her ears. We think she's mixed with husky based on her coloring and markings. Whatever she is though - she is a gorgeous little girl!. And those ears!!!


Besides being beautiful, Mayfly is also a really stable, confident puppy. She gets along great with people and other dogs and loves to snuggle. She will follow her person if that's what you want, but she is confident enough to go explore on her own. She has no fear of new things and would be great in an active family.


Mayfly is already crate and leash savvy, and is perfecting her potty-training. She is starting to show interest in toys and rides well in the car. If you are looking for a dog and people friendly pup to take on new adventures, Mayfly is your girl!

Cavatelli (fka Gnocchi) is a 1 yo, 33 lb bundle of love! A sweet boy who LOVES to play with people, toys, and other dogs, Cavatelli is ready for an active family to call his own.

Cavatelli is house/ trained/ crate-trained (though he whines in a crate) who wants to be where the action is. He does have an off-switch though, and his favorite thing to do besides play is to snuggle and give hugs. He's great with new people and in new situations, and would be a great hiking or jogging friend.

Now, on his right rear paw, he has a two that sits higher than the others. The vet has looked at it and can't find anything wrong with it. Our guess is that he might have had a paw injury at a young age and the toe was set poorly, but it doesn't stop him from running, jumping, playing, wrestling, snuggling, or anything else he wants to do! He also has a bad habit of eating grass and when he does, it can cause a bit of an upset stomach but it is easily moderated by watching him outside and preventing him from eating stuff he's not supposed to.

He hasn't been specifically kid-tested yet but because of of predilection for hugs, might not be best around little ones that he may knock over. Otherwise, this boy is ready for a new adventure with a best friend (human or canine)!

The ACOTAR litter (IYKYK) - Azriel (M, 10 lbs), Cassian (M, 11 lbs), and Nesta (F, 10 lbs) were born to a stray border collie mama in early Feb and were rescued by a wildlife rehabilitation group. They have grown up to be an extremely sweet, friendly and playful little group and are ready to find their forever homes.

Azriel: This sweet boy is the perfect mix of playful and loving. He’s always up for an adventure, but his favorite place to be is right by your side—your little shadow wherever you go.

Azriel is incredibly affectionate and hands out a million kisses to anyone (human or dog) willing to accept them. He loves to play, explore, and then come right back for snuggles and attention.

With his friendly, loving nature, Azriel would make a wonderful addition to just about any home.

Azriel is being fostered in Spring, TX

Reese is a sweet and charming 7 year old purebred BC. He loves to cuddle and bonds deeply with his people. His favorite thing is playing with toys - he loves a good tennis ball but also loves “herding” bigger balls like basketballs, shoving them around with his nose. He can get really hyper focused on his toys and will ignore everything around him when he is in drive. He can be very demanding when he wants you to play fetch with him - he’ll shove a ball repeatedly at your feet, or literally throw a tug toy at you. But he’s good about disengaging if you put the toy away and tell him all done. He has a really great off switch and settles really well - he is relaxed around the house and if you are with him and sit down/stop he will lay down and settle until you ask him to do something or start moving again. Though he has a deep love of toys, he also has a high food drive - he loves treats and eats his meals well.

Reese is very neutral about other dogs, he will ignore them when he is out walking with you, and when meeting other dogs he very quickly will dismiss and leave them alone. He also doesn’t really care to play with or interact with other dogs either, he prefers his people, so he would probably do well in an only dog home. But it’s not a requirement - he currently is living with a number of other dogs at his foster home with no issues. He also ignores the cat and has not reacted when the cat has hissed at or smacked him. He lives with a professional dog trainer and has accompanied her to work where he works as a demo/neutral dog - even with other dogs barking at him he won’t react. He is eager to learn new things and work with you, he is very smart and learns quickly. He is also very trustworthy off leash - he wants to stay with you and will stay with you, even if you don’t have a toy or food. He likes to carry his ball while he walks with you - he’s been a great trail dog.

If it sounds like he’s the perfect dog - he is - 90% of the time. Reese can get startled relatively easily and will alarm bark at strange humans. This is primarily when he’s at home, but it does sometimes happen when he is surprised by strangers out and about, especially children. He is also not a fan of the vet and has been muzzled during veterinary procedures as a precaution, but if he focuses on his foster mom with food or a toy, he has tolerated blood draws and vaccines and stayed still. He is also very environmentally confident and does not get bothered by loud noises or other sudden environmental changes (like something large falling and clattering).

One of the things we suspect has caused his startle and occasional grumpiness is that he was not in great shape when we got him into rescue. He had fleas and hair loss and was incredibly itchy, but flea treatment and a cytopoint injection fixed that. While he was neutered, the vet x-rayed his hips and spine after he had shown some weakness and sensitivity in his rear. He has spondylosis and significant arthritis in both hips. Since then he has started taking carprofen and is on several joint supplements and that has made a big improvement. He also had a lot of muscle wasting so his foster mom has been working on improving his muscle tone and stamina which has also helped. Since he’s started feeling better, in addition to doing training sessions with his foster mom, his behavior around strangers has improved notably. However, his foster mom believes he will always harbor some level of sensitivity around strangers and especially young children. He should not go to a home with children, and his new home will need to exercise caution when he is out of the house so he doesn’t end up in a situation that causes him to lash out or react.

His ideal home is an moderately active individual or couple who will be devoted to them, who has another dog or two and a relatively calm home without frequent visitors. Bonus if they let him sleep in bed with them. He does not actually require a large amount of exercise, but enjoys doing everything with his people. He would not do well accompanying a runner or other high impact activities, but he likes walking (in the neighborhood or on trails) and swimming and those are good for him. He also enjoys training and other mental enrichment. He is one of the sweetest dogs you’ll meet, and fun and silly. He deserves a great home that is understanding of his quirks and understand that he will always need to be managed (with children/strangers and with his arthritis and spondylosis) to some extent, but overall can live a happy normal life and bring joy to you every day.

Samson was adopted from BCSAVE in 2022. About 3 years old and around 69 lbs., Samson had his first seizure in late 2024 and since then, has had several seizures and been diagnosed with idiopathic epilepsy. He has been prescribed phenobarbital, which must be given twice daily, approximately 12 hours apart.

His current family is unable to consistently administer his medication on this schedule, which can lead to additional seizures, and has asked if we could find him a new home where he can get his medication regularly.

A giant teddy bear of a dog, Samson lives with kids, does well with people of all ages and is fine with other dogs (he has not been cat-tested since being a puppy). He is house-trained and leash-trained, though he can be a bit of a puller. He knows several commands, including site, shake, lay, stay, wait and come.

His current owner got Samson DNA tested early on, and he's 41% Catahoula, 17% Cattle Dog, and 10% Border Collie (plus some other stuff). He's a gentle giant and super sweet.

We are looking for a foster who can manage Samson's medication regime (we would cover the cost) while we find him a FURever home. We would even love a FURever foster - someone who could love Samson and care for him and BCSAVE would cover his medical costs.

Teddy was saved from a high-kill rural TX shelter. 

​Teddy is a sweet, loving, outgoing and very smart pup that loves to make friends with all dogs and people and has been tested around cats as well. He is very well trained and has his Good Canine Citizen certification! He loves to run, play fetch, run around with his doggie friends, a good adventure in a car and belly rubs. He is well mannered in the house (has never had an accident) and sleeps quietly in a crate overnight.​

Teddy is being fostered in Gunter, TX (north of DFW).

Meet Cooper, a 2 year old purebred red merle BC boy in Abilene TX. Cooper was rehomed about a year ago and it was discovered that Cooper's owner had some serious cognitive decline and had not been caring for Cooper (and a few other fur friends).

Through the help of a local rescue angel, we were able to get Cooper to a secure spot where he's begun his road to recovery. Initially too weak to even stand, Cooper had hardly any muscle mass and had not received any vaccinations recently. Since joining us, he's gained weight and gotten healthy.

Currently, Cooper is great with his foster family but can be reactive to new people. He is such a sweet boy and has come such a long way though. He has gotten better with several people who come around on a regular basis though visitors to his foster home are careful and guarded around him. But once Cooper trusts you, he has no issues. Cooper also LOVES his foster sister, and plays with her constantly.

Cooper does also need work on leash and in the car, but practice will make perfect with Cooper. Otherwise, Cooper will require an experienced and patient home with another dog but will make a fantastic new best friend for the right home.

Whisky is a sweet red and white smooth coat that was likely dumped by the same breeder that had previously abandoned several other BCSAVE alumni (BB, CeeCee, DD, Echo, Sally and Nick).

He was very shy/shut down when he first came into his foster home, but has made many advances in the last 4 months. He now walks very well on a leash, and is crate trained and house trained. He is still shy when meeting strangers but will approach if you sit or lay with him and loves to play and wrestle ("grab that mouth" is his favorite game to play in the morning).

Whisky has learned many commands and will happily jump into the car for a ride. He has pretty good recall, loves the outdoors and will run and do zoomies around the yard. He LOVES dogs of any kind and loves to play chase. He is good with baths and loves a good bully stick to chew on. Like all his predecessors, this sweet boy has had a very rough and neglected start to life but is loving and intelligent and is growing to be a great companion with love and patience.

Whisky is being fostered Gloster, LA

Wrangler was found at about 12 weeks old by a Good Samaritan. He had a broken leg, and they nursed him back to health. Wrangler is your classic border collie: super smart, full of energy, and always ready to chase something or someone. He’s crate trained and potty trained, but has little toy/ food/ tug drive though he'll probably herd sheep all day and all night if he could.

Wrangler's also a dog's dog. He loves his person, but not enough to want to stay with them if there is something fun going on outside. His prey drive is strong, so he’ll need a home where he won’t be tempted to chase small animals. He can also clear a 5 ft fence but isn't an escape artist.

He can still be shy around new people but warms up quicky. He loves playing with his dog friends and with his special dog friends, will wrestle and give kisses. The others are for chasing only, and Wrangler loves that game too!

He's likely best or an active home where he can go on hikes and play in the yard with his new best fur-friend!

In Oct. 2024, we were asked if we could assist with a big hoarding case in far NTX. BCSAVE and ABCR w/ rescues from TX and other states came together to save 44 pups from a much larger group, a breeding program gone awry. These pups had no regular human contact and were essentially feral, but we worked with the family and got the first group of 29 (!) here in TX vetted, heartworm tested, spayed/ neutered and into fantastic fosters home and most have been adopted (still have a few waiting).

Then in January 2025, we were able to get 4 young pups (the J Group) and into foster and adoptive homes.

Now, the next batch is here! Starting with #45 (because we forgot to number the J’s 🤣), we have FOURTEEN new pups! These pups are slightly less feral than the first batch, but will still require patience and experience with unsocialized pups. Our preference is to place them in foster homes first, then find the perfect adoptive families once they learn to “dog”. They have lived outside all their lives, but are super smart and the last 48 pups have learned house rules super quickly! They have all also been super dog-friendly, and come from working stock so some are *very* herdy.

Willow is a BC mix pup found as a stray in Fort Worth in June 2025. She appears to be a large border collie/Pap mix, about 23 lbs and 17 1/2 in tall.

Willow is one of the sweetest dogs you will ever met. She is just a little cautious when she meets new people but quickly forgets and loves everyone, male or female. She will jump in your lap for long snuggles and kisses. Her weight and height make it easy to pick her up and carry her around like a sheltie! She knows how to sit and the word off (as in "get off the couch").

When we first brought Willow into the rescue, she was super-reactive to other dogs and the occasional person walking by in public, however she has improved in this area. She does live currently with several other dogs, but her foster allowed Willow a month before integrating her into the larger pack. If an adopter has another dog in the home, Willow would need a long introduction, with several walks and meets with the dog to become familiar before being placed.

Willow is now very comfortable with her foster brothers and sisters, though she still challenges the matriarch female occasionally. She would probably be most easily introduced to a submissive male dog. Once she gets over her reactivity, she LOVES to play with the others. She has convinced all the young dogs to play with her, two of whom had never played with any other foster before Willow.

Willow is a whirlwind, racing in the yard after squirrels but will also snuggle with you while you watch TV. She is very food motivated and will also play with toys. She loves tennis balls and toys that crinkle and squeak, particularly a large stuffed chicken from Pets Supplies Plus. She enjoys tug of war with the leash toys with fluff at the end. She is very high energy and has learned how to scale a 3 foot fence so her adopter should have a 6 foot privacy fence. She is crate trained but her foster has started leaving her out and she has done very well, with no items destroyed and no accidents in the house. She is doggy door trained as well.

We think Willow would do well in an experienced home with no other pets that can work with her dog reactivity, or one that is willing to give her the time she needs to get used to any dogs in the family. She is a fun, fantastic pup who just needs a little but of patience (if there are other dogs) to become your best girl!

King was surrendered in MS last year with Queenie by owners who had to move and were not able to safely keep them, so they opted to find a rescue. Unfortunately, King was heartworm positive at the time. He has since gone through treatment and is clear of heartworms now and ready to find a FURever home!

King may be a mature pup, but he has that lively, non-stop border collie energy that makes him seem more like two years old instead of almost seven. When his foster first got him, he loved to snatch things and prance off, inviting his foster family to chase him. Don't get that confused with fetch though (unless he is in zoomie mode lol).! He does love tug and overall, is a happy, friendly boy who loves meeting new people, including children but he's not into super cuddles, preferring to hang out and get pet instead.

King has also been good with most other dogs with the exception of his foster mom's daughter's husky, so we would recommend slow introductions to make sure King and any current fur-friends will get along. He has no interest in squirrels or deer, but goes into a barking frenzy over lawnmower equipment, motorcycles, bicycles and golf carts. He has escaped several times through the front door to charge several houses down to bark at the lawnmowers and weed eaters though he's pretty much all bark and no bite. However, we think King would benefit from a more rural home where he doesn't constantly have to hear equipment noises right outside (though he feels the same way about tractors).

King’s absolute favorite thing in the universe is a car ride, especially with the windows down so he can patrol the back seat. When his foster mom gets home, instead of greeting me, he runs to the car and asks for a car ride!

Like a lot of our BC pups, King does not like thunderstorms and usually goes upstairs to his crate when he is nervous, though sometimes he can’t settle and wraps himself around his foster mom's legs.

Some things that need to be worked on with King are his leash pulling, waiting calmly at the door to be released, and recall (which is usually very good except with the lawn equipment triggers).

King is absolutely the sweetest and most delightful boy. He will bring so much joy and energy to a family who will love him and who can help him rechannel his impulses.

King is currently being fostered in the Houston TX area.

Lakona (Kona) was surrendered to our partner vet in March 2025 as a puppy to be euthanized after he suffered a medical issue and his family could not afford his care. BCSAVE stepped in to cover the cost and take Lakona (aka Kona) under our wing. After surgery to remove a cloth foreign body that was anchored in his stomach and extended into his intestines, and subsequent fluid removal from his belly, he joined the rescue. After about a year in foster care, Kona grew up to be the sweetest, gentlest, best-behaved boy.

Kona is a very friendly and gentle boy that takes a minute to warm up to new people, but once he does, he is all about love. He is affectionate and adores all the dogs that he meets and has learned to live with cats. He does great and has all the confidence in the world when he has another confident dog with him, but he’s still timid when solo with new people and situations.

He is 100% crate trained, and has grown out of his chewing phase with bedding and plush toys. He walks great on and off leash, and mostly wants to hang out with his people with his easy/sweet ways. When he gets zoomies, he might knock over younger kids with his goofy play because he has no idea what to do with his legs. He knows his basics: sit, wait, down, crate, heel, come. He just likes to play!

He is a velcro dog and meets everyone with kindness. He would love a fun, playful fur-friend to romp with and a loving family who can continue working with him to build his confidence.

Kona is being fostered in Houston, TX

Gem and her siblings were rescued from an 80+ dog hoarding case in North Texas.

Gem (aka Gemma) was extremely shy at first, but has come around to asking for pets and scratches regularly once she gets to know her people. She loves hanging out outside with her dog pack, and playing chase and getting in the water. She is extremely food motivated but has not shown much interest in toys yet. She is a fairly active dog, and at times, her working line spirit really shows when chasing the donkeys along the fence line.

Gemma is not yet leash or crate trained but is house-trained with a dog door. She'll make a great active companion and would love a pup friend to run a large yard with!

Skipper has had a rough start in life. A stray, he entered the shelter with non-contagious mange as well as a front leg that was fractured in two places. The shelter was full and medical cases are often the first to get euthanized when the shelter needs to make space. We took him in with the help of a wonderful foster.

Since then, he has been treated for the mange and his leg has healed. Since then, he's been with his foster and has done fabulously! His foster tested his DNA and found out Skipper is Husky/ Shepherd mix with no BC (hard to tell when they have no hair lol).

Even though he has not BC in him, he is a fantastic pup. He is a sweet, lovable, active, and friendly pup. He loves to hang outside and chew on a bone, or frolic with his foster brothers. He is always happy and friendly, and is crate and house-trained. He will make a fine pup for an active family looking for a sweet guy to just “be a dog”.

Bess is a petite black and white pup who is pure working dog at heart. She was one of the most feral of the Heartland Hoarding group. Very similar to Sistene, Bess likes to herd you all the time. Bess will never be cuddly or affectionate but enjoys being around her foster family. She goes everywhere her foster mom does on the ranch and is content with hanging out. She does gets annoyed by kids and just walks away from them. She is a peculiar dog and often her foster mom would find her sitting in a flower pot, laying on a bench, or find she has dug a giant hole to lay in. It took awhile but she can finally be walked on a leash and harness. She has finally started asking for affection and will now put her paws in her foster mom's lap when she wants something.

Dainty is likely a Border Collie/ Terrier (?) mix. Dainty was a stray captured in the Weatherford area. She was heartworm positive at the time she was rescued and has been going through slow kill treatment.

She has finally come around to be pet, though she is still nervous about it at times. She is dog door and house trained, and loves to sleep on a soft dog bed. She is playful with other pups, though she can get a little pushy at times (we think that’s the Terrier in her). She is still difficult to hold for longer than a few seconds and can not be leashed.

Dainty needs a patient family who is willing to work with her while she gets used to any new location. She is not an affectionate dog, and is likely going to take a long time to become comfortable in a new home.

Stella is one of six puppies rescued from a backyard breeder in Tennessee. There were many more seized and through the partnership of several rescues across the US and shelters and local law enforcement, all were placed in rescues. ALL of the pups were extremely unsocialized, very fearful of people, and heartworm positive. Their lives to date had been spent crowded in outdoor cages with little access to people, regular care or vetting. Some were so matted they had to be shaved and were ALL intact (neither spayed or neutered). Unfortunately several have crossed the rainbow bridge due to health issues and complications related to their heartworm treatment.

Stella has come such as long way! She will readily follow you around and has started to explore on her own, but reach down and she may or may not run away. If you are quick enough to scratch her butt, she might slowly inch closer for more, and while she won’t come when called, you can catch her and hold her for a minute before she gets anxious.

She is great around other dogs (never been around cats), but she barks to express her EVERY emotion. She likes to protect her space too, and will dart out and yip if another dog gets too close. But nothing serious – Stella is really ALL bark and very little bite! She rarely ever chews things up, but she expresses her frustration by grabbing and tugging loose fabric – chair, carpet tread, slipcovers, etc… She is house-trained if you get her out early and often or crate her.

Her pastimes include:

👉 Looking adorable
👉 Sleeping behind the couch

She will take some time to warm up to a new family, and is only available to adopt in Texas in case she needs to come back to the rescue. Stella is a work in progress but great for someone who likes a little challenge in the cutest little package ever!

Wyatt joined BCSAVE in May 2020 with several dogs who were living in ETX in pretty bad conditions. The owner was a man who we believe was mentally handicapped and never cared for the dogs. He ended up in the hospital, and the dogs (never vaccinated and pretty feral) were falling prey not only to poor care and each other, but to coyotes.

The rescuer was able to begin to trap pups (with the sister’s permission) and we found ourselves slowing taking in one dog after another. George and Martha were the first we got (about 6 wks old puppies) in May. Mercedes came after, and Butch, the oldest, came with Sundance and Sloane about six weeks later. But while the rescuers were able to get most of the dogs, there were still two left that were too savvy or cunning to get trapped.

The rescuer continued to go out to the property at least 1x week to feed the two last dogs and try to trap them and were having no success. They kept in touch with us, sending us pics from the trail cameras they had put on the property to track the pups. Finally, in desperation, they hired a trapper to come and dart both the pups. Finally, the last two pups arrived loopy, drugged, scared. We named them Wyatt and Doc, after Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday. Wyatt is obviously not a Border Collie but we didn’t want to split them up or leave one out there.

Wyatt has come a LONG way since that day in 2020. He’s one of our “project” dogs. He has become a great house and farm dog. He sleeps inside, comes when called, plays ball and loves to swim. He will eat from your hand and loves to sleep in his dog bed. He’s dog friendly and will run and chase and is house-trained with a dog door. He will allow himself to be pet now, though he’s still not too sure about it. The ONLY thing is that he still cannot be leashed/ walked. He can be trapped in a room and held in order to get his shots, and is not aggressive at all (just scared).

Wyatt would love to be a farm dog, where he can run the property but come in at night. He would love to have someone spend some one on one time with him, working with him to get over this last hump. He has so much promise and is a great dog who just needs a little more help!

Twilight is a great goofy pup who is looking for a patient and loving home! A tri-colored mix boy who was transferred to BCSAVE from another rescue, he originally was surrendered in Lubbock TX, where he and a littermate were thought to be deaf. Turns out he wasn’t deaf but did have some serious trust issues. He’s still a little timid around new people, but will warm up quickly in a new home.

He has been w/ his current foster for a few years now and is doing great! He does prefers women over men, but is REALLY sweet and a bit of a goober. Once he trusts you, he is lovey-dovey and loves getting scratched all over. His nickname is “Wiggle Booty Buddy” because he’s always wagging his tail! He also LOVES to play with other dogs, and handicaps exceptionally well with smaller or younger dogs. He is very treat motivated and loves to swim. He has some hesitation about collars and leashes, but has gotten much more comfortable with touching his collar (though he still needs leash work). He knows the dog door, is house trained, and can be crated. He can hop a four ft. fence so would probably need a higher fence or to stay inside when his family is gone. He is also a cat chaser, so would probably be best in a cat-free home.

The best home for Twilight is one where he can go outside and romp, then inside for love and comfort. He needs some one on one time to learn that leashes aren’t bad and walks can be fun. He’s smart as a whip, not aggressive at all (even when scared), and is a great boy with a lot of potential. He just needs a home that can see his potential like we do. 🥰

Abigail (aka Abby) is one of six feral, BYB pups who joined us in 2021. All unsocialized and heartworm+, Abby has come so far and is ready for a special FURever home who will love her remaining quirks as much as we do!

A petite 30 lbs, Abby is a sweet girl who likes nothing more than to get scratched and petted. She’s still a little timid around men, but does very well with her foster mom and kids. She can be a bit of a jerk to cats, but she does good with other dogs that will put up with her darting at them from wherever she is hiding. She is also a toy hoarder and destroyer of all things, like mayo packets, chapstick, tennis balls, etc… She is still nervous about wide open spaces and going out the front door on her own, but can be leashed and LOVES riding in the car. She’s almost perfect with house-training but still working on being 100%.

Favorite things to do:

👉 Get stuck under a towel or blanket
👉 Rolling on the bed
👉 Killing squeaky toys
👉 Eating things she shouldn’t
👉 Teasing her fur-friends

She may be quirky but she is adorable and full of personality and will make a wonderful addition to any family who is willing to give her a little time to shine! Her new family will need to expect a transition time with Abby and will need to patient with her as she learns a new home. She may still be timid or shy, and take some time to warm up to a new family and household. She is only available to adopt in Texas in case she needs to come back to the rescue.

Sassy is a BC female who was rescued by a Good Samaritan several years ago after Sassy had been at the vet for injuries related to falling out of a truck (twice). While she is mostly healed, she does have some toes that are crooked and nails that are sensitive. She seems to have “phantom” issues with her hip and will “massage” with her mouth, but she’s been through all sorts of testing and medications and we can’t find anything wrong. Currently, her hip is managed somewhat with Gabapentin and Carprofen.

A high energy, high drive dog, Sassy has extreme ball and disc drive, assertive and focused. She needs a secure fence if there is any roads nearby, as she is obsessed with chasing cars along the fence line. She has good recall and walks well on a leash, and is cat friendly. Sassy does NOT play with other dogs – she ignores them and can live happily with them, but she is only focused on her ball and her people. She does love to snuggle with you on the couch or bed. She also loves to swim and will fetch whatever you throw in the water for her.

Sassy has LOTS of “quirks”. She is very car-reactive – barking at them along a fence if she can see/ hear them, or barking at them while riding IN the car. She also digs and barks at dirt, as well as chases her tail at times. Sassy will need a home that can be okay with her obsessive tendencies. But otherwise, Sassy is perfectly well-behaved. She self-entertains, though she would prefer to engage with you, is super smart, and has a fantastic personality. Even with her quirks, Sassy is a loving girl who lives for her ball and snuggling. She has a great personality and disposition and will provide her new family with lots of fun times!

Kirby is a transfer from our friends at Duck Team 6, a street dog rescue in the Dallas area with a mission to reduce the street dog population through trapping and rehoming. Back in April, Kirby showed up on a nice lady’s property in Joshua, TX and decided he didn’t want to leave and the owner asked DT6 for help. Their capture team went out and set the trap but before they finished dropping the food trail, Kirby was captured!

Kirby was then placed in a boarding facility while DT6 looked for his owners (1st) then a rescue to transfer him to (2nd). They reached out to us because Kirby, likely a BC/ Aussie mix, is also probably a former ranch dog and not really used to people, so they wanted to make sure Kirby could go someplace that understood his quirks and could help him find the perfect place to call his FURever home.

Kirby has been with us since April 2022, and what we know so far is that he does NOT like a leash, likes to roam his property but always comes back, and is still hesitant around people. He gets along fine with other dogs and has learned how to play. He knows when to come eat and knows the dog door, though he prefers to stay outside. He will take treats from your hand and wants to be inside when it thunders.

Kirby is looking for a foster home who can work with him on his fear of people and leashes, and would do best with lots of room to roam and a really good fence.

🐾 Meet Lego! 🐶🖤

Lego is a dynamic black and white bundle of joy weighing in at 40 lbs. He’s a true athlete, always on the go, and his love for toys is unmatched! 🏃‍♂️🎾

One of Lego’s unique quirks is his adorable duck-like bark – it’s bound to make you smile every time you hear it! 🦆 He’s also quite the problem solver; Lego has been known to jump baby gates with ease to get where he wants to go. He will counter surf, so his family needs to make sure there is nothing to tempt him while teaching him the rules of the roost.

Lego is a social butterfly, getting along well with kids, people and other dogs. He does have herding tendencies, and will nip the heels of smaller kids and even an adult on occasion, so he needs a child-free family and one that is familiar with herding behaviors. He is not very toy-motivated but does loves his treats and is very receptive to learning new commands.

If you’re an active individual or family looking for a four-legged adventure buddy, Lego could be the perfect match for you! He’s ready to share his boundless energy and affection with a loving forever home.

Sistene and her siblings were rescued from a 30+ dog hoarding case in North Texas and are a part of our Heartland 29 group.

Sistene is a working dog who needs a job. Her favorite activity is running with the other pups who like to herd. Sistene will also still need leash and crate work, and you'll need to take training slow with Sistene. She has finally allowed her foster family to pet her and give her treats, but her real love is for running outside with her pack.

Lindy (as in Lindy Hop because she’s so bouncy) is mix girl, we think maybe with pointer or even some sort of sighthound. Whatever Lindy is mixed with, it’s an active dog, because Lindy is all about running and playing and jumping and wrestling all day long!

Lindy was adopted in 2023 by a handler who trained her in search and rescue but returned her because her dog and Lindy were getting into fights plus Lindy had a rear leg injury.

We’ve had Lindy back now for several months. She is a VERY high drive dog for search and hunt, and is nearly fully trained for some sort of cadaver training; we’re not SAR-lingo proficient but we were told she’s just a couple of tests shy of becoming “certified” in Search and Rescue/ Human Remain Detection.

Lindy is now fully healed up, released from the vet, she’s gone back to her original trainer to evaluate, and she’s got no issues that we can see.

We’d love to get her back to work, since that is what SHE loves. She’s a fantastic dog, and while her leg bothers her if she overexerts herself, it never slows her down. She’s fearless and driven, climbs on everything and anything, and when in the house, crates beautifully and is extremely loving and sweet. If another dog in our (very busy) house puffs up to her, she’ll stand her ground but she’s not starting fights or causing ruckus. In fact, she’ll crate herself if there is too much hubbub going on. She LOVES climbing rubble and swimming and toys and balls and fetch and nosework…She is an exuberant girl, and is built for action – she is lean and muscled, even if she is a bit of a bull in a china shop.
